Overview

The School of Aerospace, Civil and Mechanical Engineering is one of the five Schools of the University College. This college of the University of New South Wales forms the academic component of the Australian Defence Force Academy, located in the Australian Capital Territory. The School is committed to excellence in teaching and research that serves the Defence Force and the Australian community. Its 27 full-time academic staff, supported by 30 research and technical staff, are involved in a variety of research, consulting and continuing education activities.

The School presents five standard degree programs. Academically gifted students can apply to study one of these degrees under the Chief of Defence Force (CDF) program, which includes a research component.

School Objectives

  • provide a sound educational base in all areas of the disciplines of aerospace, civil and mechanical engineering;
  • achieve and maintain excellence of performance in teaching and research commensurate with national and international academic standards;
  • ensure that our undergraduate programs satisfies the requirements of both the Engineers Australia and the Australian Defence Force;
  • ensure that our higher degree programs provide Defence personnel and civilians with postgraduate level technical and professional skills at a recognised standard of excellence; and
  • foster links between the School and professional bodies, the Australian Defence Force and its agencies, government, industry, commerce and private practice.
